At Key Stage 5, students will follow the WJEC Eduqas syllabus for A Level Media Studies. Students are required to complete three components of study. Two of which will be exam based worth 70% of the overall mark and a non-exam assessment which is worth 30%.
Component One involves students investigating the media using the four key media concepts: media language, representation, audiences and institutes. Students will have the opportunity to investigate a range of media products which include advertisements, marketing, newspapers, music videos, film, radio and video games in the exam.
Component Two involves students to investigate media forms and products, with an emphasis on media contexts. The exam will consist of three sections: television, magazines and online media.
Finally, the non-exam assessment is an individual media production comprising a cross-media production based on two forms in response to a choice of briefs. Students will apply their knowledge and understanding of the theoretical framework and digital convergence.
