Good GCSE Results Maintained In Uncertain Times

King Edwards VI Handsworth Wood Girls’ Academy (KEVI HWGA) are very proud to announce that our students have achieved as well as last year in these uncertain and unprecedented times.  The academy are very proud of the girls who have shown resilience and confidence despite the uncertainty and wish them all the best in their future ventures.  47.5% of our students either met or exceeded their target grades, which is an excellent achievement.

There are some great individual stories of success – Roshni Ghinday achieved eight grade 9s and one grade 8.  When asked to comment, Roshni simply said “I’m happy with my results.”.  Hafsa Patel also achieved seven grade 9s and two grade 8s, which is also an excellent achievement.  In addition, Jessica Gaddu achieved three grade 9s, three grade 8s and three grade 7s.  Jessica said “Didn’t expect what I got at all.  Super proud of myself despite the circumstances.”.

In addition to the many successes, there have been some disappointments as well today.  Most students have joined the institutions of further education that they originally applied for to follow their desired courses. However, where students needed support Mrs Plimmer, Futures Manager, was available to help students find a suitable course and institution to help them step on to a suitable path towards their future career. Mr Qamar Riaz, Headteacher, said “It has been a pleasure to watch students receive their GCSE results today which have helped them secure places at our 6th form and other institutions across the city.  Although there has been much celebration and elation there has also been disappointment as some students have felt they have not been able to showcase their real abilities or aptitude as they were not able to sit their examinations. We are proud of all our students’ efforts and commitments and wish them the very best in their future studies or training.”
