Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
2015 saw the first year running the Duke of Edinburgh Award. 15 Year 10 pupils have were selected to complete the Bronze level of this award. The award is split into 4 key areas, service, skill, physical recreation and expedition. The aim of the award is to encourage young people to take an active role in their community but also to encourage young people to become fit and active.
The main section of the award and the one most young people find most engaging is the expedition section. At bronze level this involves 2 days walking and an overnight camp in a campsite. The practice expedition is to be held on 17-18th April on Cannock Chase, with the pupils walking between, 15-18km over the two days. The qualifying expedition in June will be around the Clent and Lickey Hills with pupils completing their two day expedition walking around 20km over the two days.
