Student Voice Charity Bake Sale

School has started again, with teachers looking forward to teaching and student looking forward to learning. However the teachers and students at Handsworth Wood Girls Academy (HWGA) mostly anticipate the delicious cakes…and the fresh, hot vegetable samosas served with chutney. Yummy!

HWGA holds bake sales for different causes throughout the whole year. Causes can vary from raising money for Red Nose Day, to the emergency situation in Syria.

This year (2014) the first fundraiser was held by Student Voice. Student Voice is a project started by four sixth form students where the main objective was to improve the relationship between sixth form students and lower school year’s pupils. The idea that Student Voice came up with was to start a school magazine, but the main purpose of the magazine is to have a summary about various issues that students are concerned about and the solutions they come up with.  However everyone knows that without money nothing can happen. So a fundraiser on Wednesday 1st October 2014 at lunch time was held to raise money for the school magazine.

The bake sale was dubbed ‘the black market sale’ in order to give it an edge. Chocolate and Madeira cakes were available along with snacks and when there is a HWGA bake sale one thing that absolutely can’t be left out are the samosas because we just love our samosas.

Student voice raised around £146, and this money was placed in the school bank, which will help them with the cost of the school magazine.
