Preparation for the UCAS application starts in Year 12, where students are encouraged to visit University Open Days and research into different types of HE courses available.  In Year 13 the students will research where to study the desired course and make their application online with ‘UCAS Apply’. The applicant journey:

  • Student researches where to study
  • Registers online with UCAS Apply
  • Completes all sections of the form including ‘The Personal Statement’
  • Reference is added by the School
  • School sends form electronically to UCAS
  • UCAS processes form and forwards to chosen HE institution
  • HE institutions submit decisions
  • Applicant views decisions on Track

All students are given support and guidance throughout the process of their application.  School Discovery Days have also been allocated to support students and visiting speakers come in to provide information about university fees and student finance.

University Support Programmes

University pathway programmes are designed to build the academic skills needed to progress to a degree course and succeed. It provides students with an intense insight into University life and if eligible, students may receive offers below the standard offer. We encourage our students to research and apply for the programmes below, if they are eligible.

The Access to Birmingham (A2B) scheme is designed to help students from families and communities in the West Midlands who have little or no experience of higher education find out about what studying at university involves.

Pathways at Warwick is an engaging two year programme for  students in year 12, providing practical advice about studying a particular subject at university and allowing students to explore what it’s like to work in a particular profession. Pathways are available for Law, Banking and Finance and Engineering.

The Pathway to Health Care is designed to prepare students to enter medical school and other healthcare professions at Aston or elsewhere.  Aston Medical School is an exciting model for medical education that is a platform for mobility into medicine.
