Curriculum Vision

We aim to provide a high-quality music education that allows all students to appreciate the important role music plays in the curriculum. 

We cover a range of areas in key stage 3:

  • Blues Music
  • RAP Music
  • African Drumming
  • Indian Classical Music
  • Minimalism

Students can get involved in a ukulele club, the school musical and a school talent show.

We offer a range of instrumental lessons taught by specialist teachers in Guitar, Keyboard/piano Vocals and Woodwind and strings (We are willing to find teachers for other instruments where possible). Please get in touch with Mr Judd if your daughter would like an instrumental lesson.   

We also offer opportunities to perform with our talent show and our end of year school production.  

Overview

Key Stage 3

Pupils will study a range of topics in key stage 3 from the building blocks of music to looking at music from around the world. They will have the opportunity to play a range of instruments including keyboards and percussion instruments. They will also be able to use the music software GarageBand on the students iPads. Each year will end with a band project where the students will work together to learn, rehearse and perform a popular piece of music.

Year 7:  The scheme includes Rhythm and Pulse, Introduction to Music Technology, Keyboard Skills, Modern Classics and Instruments of the Orchestra

Year 8: The scheme includes African Drumming Music, Indian Classical Music, Blues, RAP and Minimalism

Year 9: This scheme includes Film Music, Reggae, Developing as a performer, Electric Dance Music, Original Song Writing.

Key Stage 4

In key stage 4, pupils will take EDUCAS/WEDJEC Performing Arts Level 1/2 Technical Award. It is a two year course. Students will take three units

Unit 1 Performing: students will learn the skills and techniques needed to produce a successful performance of an existing work. They choose their song and it can be any genre they want it to be.

Unit 2 Creating: They will learn how to create and refine their own original piece of music or song. They will create compositional logs detailing why they have decided to compose it in that particular way referring back to their given brief.

Unit 3 Performing Arts in Practice: They will learn about areas of the performing arts industry that need to be considered when responding to a commission and will consider these when coming up with and pitching their own idea.
